Carbon Neutral

Aiming for Perfection

When  waste cannot be reduced, reused or recycled, energy from waste provides the most sustainable solution. The UK currently recycles 45% of its waste, with over 40% of the unrecyclable waste still being sent to landfill. The UK Government’s legally binding target is to reach just over 15 million tonnes of unrecyclable waste per year by 2042 – a 50% reduction on today’s volumes. Energy from Waste Facilities whilst providing heat and power also provide the technology to capture, utilise and permanently store fossil and biogenic carbon – achieving net carbon removals in the process. Becoming carbon neutral is essential for fighting climate change and ensuring a sustainable future. It reduces harmful emissions, protects ecosystems and promotes innovation in green technologies. Achieving carbon neutrality is crucial for preserving the planet.

01

Reduce Emissions from Operations

Waste companies often have significant emissions from transportation and waste processing. Reducing emissions through vehicle upgrades, route optimisation, and energy efficiency in facilities directly lowers the company’s carbon footprint, helping combat climate change.

02

Implement Sustainable Waste Management Practices

Sustainable practices like recycling, composting, and methane capture reduce the environmental impact of waste, preventing harmful emissions and conserving resources. This not only aids in reaching carbon neutrality but also aligns with broader environmental protection goals.

03

Offset Unavoidable Emissions

Some emissions are inevitable, even with the best practices. Offsetting these emissions through investments in carbon offset projects, such as reforestation or renewable energy, ensures that the company can achieve carbon neutrality, balancing out its overall carbon footprint.

04

Engage Stakeholders and Continuously Improve

Engaging employees, customers, and the community in sustainability efforts builds a culture of environmental responsibility. Continuous monitoring and improvement ensure that the company stays on track toward carbon neutrality, adapting to new challenges and opportunities as they arise. This is crucial for long-term sustainability and industry leadership.
